The Finance Department was formed in May 2004. The functions of the Finance Department include:

  • Maintain the General Ledger for the City
  • Coordinate the official City audit and issue the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
  • Prepare a fiscal year budget with the City Manager and City Council
  • Issue reports concerning the finances of the City
  • Issue Accounts Payable checks
  • Coordinate with the Purchasing Department to authorize Purchase Orders
  • Invest City funds for growth
  • Maintain all City bank accounts
  • Maintain fixed asset list
  • Maintain files on all City vendors

In October 2008 the Revenue Division became part of the Finance Department. The functions of the Revenue Division include:

  • Approve, classify, process & monitor all business licenses
  • Mail business license renewal notices annually
  • Process & collect all taxes due to the City of Talladega to include gas, tobacco, sales & use, lodging & rental/lease
  • Conduct and/or oversees all audits on businesses
  • Enforce all laws regarding the licensing & taxing of business activity including issuing warnings, assessing penalties, and court appearances
  • Process & deposit all revenue collected from the recreation centers, animal control, senior nutrition, municipal court, transportation, permits, etc.
  • Collect insufficient payments made to the City of Talladega
  • Assess liens against taxpayers that fail to pay
