Public Works

The Public Works Department for the City of Talladega is responsible for the maintenance of the city's roads and right of ways, mosquito control, and the City Shop.

The Public Works Department consists of the following: Public Works Director, Administrative Assistant, two Labor Maintenance Supervisors, one Shop Supervisor, Operators, Mechanics, and Labor Maintenance Workers. Each supervisor is responsible for one aspect of the overall Public Works area of responsibility.

The City Manager and Council are upgrading our tools and equipment, improving our performance to our residents. There have been some projects over and beyond our regular duties in the past few months that have included:

  • Salter School landscaping and curb painting
  • Six Points landscaping and drainage work
  • Square landscaping and fountain installations
  • Parking lot improvements and new flower beds to the parking lot adjacent to the Post Office
  • At City Hall - new privacy fence and landscaping, new benches, decorative cans and smoking urns
  • Landscaping improvements to Heritage Hall, Ft. Lashley at South Street, and the Sports Complex
  • Flag poles were installed at Welcome Signs around the City

The Public Works Department always prepares for winter storm, heavy rain, wind storm warnings. The only major cleanup this past year was Hurricane Ivan. All other warnings were preparation only.
