Arbor Day observance Friday, February 23, 2024

(Talladega, AL) The City of Talladega will hold its 16th annual Arbor Day observance at Veterans Park on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 10 a.m.  In conjunction with its role as a designated Tree City USA, Talladega plants a tree for Arbor Day each year. This year, the city will plant a live oak. Live oaks remain green and "live" throughout winter, when other oaks are dormant and leafless.

“We are excited about continuing a tradition that helps to beautify our community, improve our environment and increase awareness of the importance of trees,” said Community Appearance Director Derrick Pointer, who has served the City of Talladega for 20 years.

“I commend our community appearance department for doing an outstanding job of beautifying our parks and other public spaces on Arbor Day and throughout the year,” said Interim City Manager Danny Warwick.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.

Throughout the world, for hundreds of years, Arbor Day observances have encouraged communities to reflect upon the vital role that trees play in our world. Trees take in carbon dioxide, release oxygen, prevent soil erosion, conserve water, beautify communities and provide food and shelter for humans and animals.
