Chief Thomas shares inspiring Women’s History Month message

(Talladega, AL) Talladega Police Chief Diane Thomas recently shared an inspiring message during FBI Birmingham's Women's History Month celebration.

“I believe it is important for women in high places, or women who hope to reach high places, to learn to toot our own horns.  Women, in particular, are often encouraged to be modest. We are often taught not to brag.  But for our own sake and for the sake of women coming behind us, we need to be comfortable explaining why we deserve to be at the table,” said Thomas, who made history when she became Talladega’s first female police chief on April 25, 2022.

Chief Thomas holds a bachelor of science in criminal justice and a master of justice administration from Faulkner University.  She earned the prestigious Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE) designation from the State of Alabama Officers' Standards and Training Commission. She is also a graduate of FBI National Academy Session 262. She completed Leadership Autauga, IACP Women’s Leadership Institute and other professional development programs. Additionally, she has served on various boards, including Autauga County Department of Human Resources. She currently serves on the Criminal Justice Advisory Board at Jefferson State Community College.

Chief Thomas is a past recipient of the Dr. Dorothy Height Leadership Award, the Woman of Character Luminary Award and the Crime Stopper Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award.
