City awarded Alabama Power Company Good Roots Grant

(Talladega, AL) The City of Talladega has been awarded a $1000.00 Good Roots grant from Alabama Power Company. The funds will be used to purchase new and replacement trees.

"We appreciate Alabama Power's commitment to our city and willingness to partner with us on diverse initiatives. The Good Roots grant will help make Talladega greener and more attractive, which helps promote pride in our community," said City Manager Seddrick Hill Sr.

Alabama Power Company Eastern Division Community Relations Manager Steve Marlowe said, “Green spaces contribute to a town’s sense of community, and the Alabama Power Foundation is proud to support the City of Talladega’s efforts through our Good Roots grant program. Together, we are helping keep Alabama beautiful and vibrant.”

In addition to beautifying communities and providing shade, trees can help create a healthier and safer environment by cleaning the air, filtering water, and slowing storm surge and flooding.  Studies indicate that trees can cool cities by up to 10 degrees, which can help prevent heat-related illnesses and deaths.

The City of Talladega and Alabama Power Company have partnered on several initiatives, including “Unifying,” an interactive mural by Talladega native Jeff Hallman.  The mural was funded through a grant the City of Talladega applied for and received from Alabama Power Company. The whimsical piece, painted on the Alabama Consumer Law Group/Campbell & Campbell office, features massive flowers, two tree swings, and a watering can.
