City of Talladega to hold annual Food Drive

City of Talladega to hold annual Food Drive

(Talladega, AL) In conjunction with Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, the City of Talladega will hold its annual Food Drive on November 19, 2024, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot. All proceeds will be given to Red Door Kitchen and Samaritan House.

“Food insecurity impacts many families in our community, including some who may lack consistent access to nutritious foods but do not qualify for Federal Nutrition Assistance,” said City Manager Derrick Swanson. “The city’s annual food drive gives each of us an opportunity to assist families in need during the holiday season.”

City Clerk Joanna Medlen, who manages the drive each year, added, “While our primary goal is to help ensure that community members in need have food during the holiday season, the drive also helps increase awareness of hunger. We hope this awareness inspires people to contribute more to Red Door Kitchen, Samaritan House and other charitable organizations throughout the year.”

Contributions should be non-perishable. Items needed include beans, canned vegetables, rice, cereal, pasta, canned fruit and oatmeal.

In conjunction with the city's We Love Talladega campaign, 14 city employees deliver meals throughout the year for Red Door Kitchen.
