Food Drive Underway

Food Drive Underway

(TALLADEGA, AL) Many of us look forward to holiday gatherings with family and friends. Games, gifts, great conversations and delicious food make our celebrations especially memorable.

“Unfortunately, Talladega families experiencing food insecurity lack consistent access to nutritious foods but may not qualify for Federal Nutrition Assistance,” said Interim City Manager Danny Warwick. “Fortunately, the city’s food drive gives each of us an opportunity to assist our neighbors in need during the holiday season.”

“This year’s drive began October 1 and finishes November 21,” said City Clerk Joanna Medlen, who manages the drive each year. “While our primary goal is to help ensure that community members in need have food during the holiday season, the drive also helps increase awareness of hunger. We hope this awareness inspires people to contribute more to Red Door Kitchen, Samaritan House and other charitable organizations throughout the year.”

Donations may be dropped off in Talladega City Clerk’s Office at City Hall. Please donate non-perishable and/or unexpired goods only. All proceeds go to Red Door Kitchen and Samaritan house. Suggested items include beans, canned vegetables, rice, cereal, pasta, canned fruit and oatmeal.
