Talladega Back to School Bash a huge success

Talladega Back to School Bash a huge success

(Talladega, AL) Hundreds of children and teens recently enjoyed a Back to School Bash hosted by the City of Talladega's Parks and Recreation Department. Highlights of the free event, which was held at the Spring Street Recreation Center, included a basketball tournament, swim, ping pong, hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and ice cream.

“We were brainstorming for ways to get kids excited about school, and decided to host our first-ever Back to School Bash,” said Parks and Recreation Department Director Summer Ammons. “Over 200 kids came, and they were all happy and well behaved.”

In addition to delighting many children and teens, the event gave families an opportunity to learn about Parks and Recreation Department activities such as soccer, football, cheerleading, archery and swim.  Parks and Recreation programs also include an annual Easter Egg Hunt, Trunk or Treat and 4th of July celebration.

City Manager Derrick Swanson noted, "Many of our youth currently play sports in other communities. We are excited about bringing them back to Talladega. We want our youth to know that we are improving our facilities, our grounds and our concession stands to make them more conducive to the needs of our community. We will be getting a new fleet of vans and doing everything we can to strengthen our programs and reclaim our youth.”

The Back to School Bash was proudly supported by the following community partners: Talladega Seven, Umbrella of Hope, the Word Center Ministries and Connect Strong.
