Talladega Officer LaZabien Bishop honored by City Manager Derrick Swanson

(Talladega, AL) Officer LaZabien Bishop was honored this week by Talladega City Manager Derrick Swanson, who thanked him for going beyond the call of duty to assist a driver who was experiencing a medical emergency.

Swanson presented Officer Bishop with a Certificate of Appreciation as well as the City Manager’s Challenge Coin. Interim Police Chief Ronald McElrath, Captain Robert Curtis, and Lieutenant Darrell Garrett attended the presentation in the city manager’s office.

“The driver called my office following the incident to tell me how professional, compassionate and helpful Officer Bishop had been," said City Manager Derrick Swanson. "She praised him for recognizing that she was in distress, providing assistance and ensuring that she was well enough to resume driving before leaving the scene."

Interim Police Chief Ronald McElrath, who also received a call from the driver, said, "We are proud of Officer Bishop for going above and beyond to serve our community."

Swanson noted that the City Manager's Challenge Coin is reserved for individuals who demonstrate excellence with commitment, accountability, pride, service, leadership, and integrity in serving their respective community. Whether through innovative ideas, courageous actions, or consistent excellence in their work, these individuals leave a lasting, positive impact on the community.
